😠 To much downtime, and each time they reject responsibility on the client's website while it is clear that all Hostnet services are offline. Three downtimes in the last few months and each one of them lasted many hours. A good way to loose potential clients, inadmissible.
There are much better and cheaper hosts out there.

😠 Don’t do business with them
Very unprofessional company who doesn’t want to take responsibility for their own faults and miscommunication which made me gain more and more invoices I needed to pay. I tried to cancel all my services since February and still trying to and we are almost in June! Paying a last xxx amount to get rid of them, which I shouldn’t had to pay! But they treated me with debt collector and adding fines to the amount. Don’t do business with this company.

😠 Hostnet SUCKS!!!
Hostnet is like children of the Corn. You can enter, bu you will never leave. It is impossible to end your services and or subcriptions. They blame you (the customer) for this. If you do not pay they send the (legal) goon squad to put you upside down and shake the money out of your pochet. Take my advise and DO NOT go in business with them. Just think about how the couple of children of the corn ended up. It was no happy ending

🔃 Hostnet is part of group.ONE(3*) 🔧 Services: Web HostingDomain Registration
⇔ Redirected domains: hostnetbv.com hostnetbv.nl hostingplaats.nl
Hostnet is a long-running Dutch hosting provider based in Amsterdam, active since 1999 and founded by Harold Douwes. Over more than two decades they have grown from a small student start-up into one of the largest shared hosting and domain providers in the Netherlands, serving well over two hundred thousand customers and employing a mid-sized in-house team. Since 2020 they have been part of the larger European group.ONE family (around one.com), but the Hostnet brand continues to operate with its own product line and support organization.
The portfolio is broad and clearly aimed at SMEs, freelancers, agencies and technically minded users who want a mix of simplicity and control. At the entry level there are domain services with a wide range of classic TLDs and new gTLDs. Registration and transfer are straightforward, with optional extras around DNS management and forwarding. For many small businesses Hostnet functions as a one-stop shop: domain, web hosting, email and basic online tools are tightly integrated in the same account.
For websites, there are several distinct tracks. Classic web hosting (shared hosting) runs on a fast shared platform with SSD storage, PHP, databases, email accounts and a free Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL certificate that is installed and renewed automatically. This is the natural option for small business sites, blogs and simple PHP applications that do not need a dedicated environment. Performance is strengthened by their own in-house cloud platform, automatic backups and an uptime target that is clearly positioned at 99.9%.
Customers who prefer WordPress get additional choices. Standard WordPress Hosting is essentially a WordPress-optimised shared package with automatic installation, a focus on speed, and hosting support seven days per week. Above that sits WP.one (Managed WordPress Cloud), a fully managed WordPress platform running on Google Cloud infrastructure. WP.one packages include dedicated resources (vCPUs and RAM per site), daily backups, a staging environment, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3, integrated caching via WP Rocket, automated WordPress and plugin updates and continuous uptime/vulnerability monitoring. This track targets busier shops and business sites that want WordPress-specialist support and 24/7 monitoring without in-house sysadmin effort.
For projects that grow beyond shared hosting, Hostnet offers Performance Hosting and VPS Hosting. Performance Hosting effectively gives a Managed VPS behind a friendlier product label: dedicated resources, WP Toolkit, staging, monitoring and management, aimed at agencies and webshops that are hitting the ceiling of shared hosting. The VPS line splits into Unmanaged VPS (for users who want full root access and manage the OS themselves) and Managed VPS (for customers who want Hostnet’s engineers to take care of OS updates, security, monitoring and in many cases Plesk configuration). There is also a specific VPS with Plesk track for users who want a familiar control panel on top of a virtual server without building everything from scratch.
Beyond pure hosting, Hostnet provides email and collaboration products. Their E-mail Hosting plans let customers run mail on their own domain with a full webmail suite (Hostnet App Suite), address book, calendar and mobile access. For organisations that rely on Microsoft’s ecosystem, Hostnet also sells Microsoft 365 subscriptions bundled with domain and DNS management. In both cases the aim is to give small businesses a professional mail and collaboration environment without having to think about low-level mail server administration.
Security and online presence are strengthened via SSL certificates (Standard, Wildcard and EV SSL on top of the free Let’s Encrypt Wildcard), backup services, and third-party tools such as Marketgoo for SEO. On the website side they also promote Website Maker and Webshop Maker for users who prefer a drag-and-drop builder, plus a "Website laten maken" service where Hostnet’s own team creates and maintains a professional site on behalf of the customer.
Overall, Hostnet is a mature, full-service Dutch host: mass-market shared hosting and domains at the front, but with credible managed WordPress and VPS options behind it for customers who outgrow the basics. The integration with group.ONE gives some extra corporate backing without changing the fact that day-to-day operations are handled by Hostnet’s own staff in Amsterdam.
💰 Price & Cost
Pricing is clearly aimed at the SME segment rather than ultra-budget shoppers, but entry points remain reasonable. Shared web hosting starts at a few euros per month, with higher plans scaling storage, traffic allowance and additional features. WordPress Hosting runs in a similar price band, positioned as a low-barrier option for blogs and small business sites.
The WP.one Managed WordPress Cloud plans are considerably more expensive, reflecting the dedicated resources and Google Cloud backend. Packages are tiered (Starter, Business, Business Premium, Enterprise) and start in the low twenties of euros per month, increasing with CPU, RAM, storage and PHP worker limits. For busy WooCommerce stores or agencies that value performance and managed updates, this pricing is in line with other serious managed WordPress offerings.
Unmanaged VPS pricing starts in a low monthly range for a small vCPU/RAM configuration and climbs depending on resource allocation. Managed VPS and Performance Hosting sit in the mid to higher range, because they include management, backups, monitoring and often a Plesk license. As usual, the more management Hostnet takes over, the higher the monthly fee.
A noteworthy plus is the 30-day "not satisfied, money-back" guarantee that accompanies many consumer-facing services such as shared web hosting, WordPress Hosting, E-mail Hosting, WP.one and several add-ons. Customers can test the platform for about a month and cancel for a refund if it does not meet expectations. For strictly business/agency contracts, standard Dutch distance-selling rules and Hostnet’s own terms still apply, but the explicit 30-day satisfaction window is a pleasant safety net for smaller users.
All prices on the site are shown excluding 21% Dutch VAT unless otherwise stated, and billing is in euro (EUR). Payment options include iDEAL, direct debit and bank transfer, which fit well with the Dutch SME audience. There is no obvious focus on exotic international payment methods, which reflects their primarily local and regional customer base.
🏢 Data Center
Hostnet runs its services on an in-house cloud platform located in professionally managed, certified data centers. They put a strong focus on compliance and sustainability: operations are backed by ISO 27001 (information security), ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) certifications. Their data centers are explicitly powered by 100% hydropower, which is relatively rare to see highlighted so clearly in the Dutch mid-market hosting scene.
For customers this translates into a reasonably high level of assurance around security, process quality and environmental footprint. The platform includes automatic backups, failover mechanisms and round-the-clock monitoring. For agencies and managed customers, Hostnet talks about an SLA with uptime and service guarantees, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee is associated with their migration and hosting services. WP.one, running on Google Cloud, adds another layer of resilience with Google’s compute and database infrastructure under the hood, along with uptime and vulnerability monitoring specifically for WordPress sites.
The combination of their own cloud stack, ISO-certified facilities and renewable-energy backing makes Hostnet’s infrastructure solid for customers who care about both reliability and sustainability, even though they do not market "spectacular" tier numbers or global data-center footprints.
✍️ Customer Support
Hostnet offer personal contact seven days per week, with support available by phone, email and chat. For many customers, especially Dutch SMEs, being able to pick up the phone and speak with a Dutch-speaking agent is still a major advantage over cheaper, purely ticket-based providers.
Over the years Hostnet has invested heavily in support tooling. They run a sizeable helpdesk handling thousands of chats per month and use a combination of human agents and an AI chat assistant to handle routine questions, while technical specialists step in for more complex issues. For managed products like WP.one and Managed VPS, support is closer to an engineer-to-engineer dialogue: you are connected directly to staff with actual system knowledge rather than a purely front-office team.
The WP.one platform offers 24/7 support from WordPress specialists, which is important for online shops and business-critical sites. For agencies, Hostnet adds dedicated account management on top of standard support, plus the possibility of SLAs and closer cooperation around migrations and scaling.
On the self-service side, there is a fairly extensive knowledge base (helpdesk.hostnet.nl) and an "Academy" section with longer guides and best-practice articles on hosting, WordPress, security and online marketing. For typical small business owners this mix of documentation and accessible human support is very usable.
🔨 Control Panel
Hostnet relies on a mix of proprietary and standard control panels, depending on the product.
For everyday tasks such as domain management, DNS, shared hosting and email, customers use Mijn Hostnet, the in-house account and management environment. From there you can manage domains, hosting packages, databases, email accounts, SSL, invoices and support tickets. The interface is geared towards non-specialists and is available in Dutch, which matches the core market.
For VPS customers, there are two main models:
- Unmanaged VPS customers manage their servers themselves, typically via SSH and standard Linux tooling.
- Managed VPS and VPS with Plesk include the Plesk control panel, with Hostnet handling the underlying OS and security updates. This is useful for agencies and developers who prefer GUI-based management of sites, mail and services on their virtual servers without taking on full sysadmin responsibility.
The WP.one Managed WordPress Cloud has its own WP.one dashboard, focused entirely on WordPress: it provides insight into performance, updates, backups, staging environments and team access. For WordPress users this is an extra layer on top of the hosting environment, tailored to the CMS rather than to generic hosting tasks.
Email users get a modern webmail interface (Hostnet App Suite) which also supports calendars and contacts. Microsoft 365 products are, as usual, managed through Microsoft’s own admin and user portals, with Hostnet mainly providing integration and first-line support.
Overall, the control-panel story is coherent: easy account-level management through Mijn Hostnet for mainstream customers, Plesk for VPS, and a specialized WP.one console for managed WordPress.
🎯 Conclusion
Hostnet comes across as a solid, very "Dutch" hosting provider: not the cheapest name on the comparison charts, but a stable partner for individuals, SMEs and agencies that value reliability, local support and a complete product stack.Key strengths include:
- Long track record (active since 1999) and backing from a larger European group (group.ONE), while still operating with its own team in Amsterdam.
- A broad, coherent product portfolio covering domains, shared hosting, WordPress, managed WordPress in the cloud, unmanaged and managed VPS, email hosting and Microsoft 365, plus SSL, backups and SEO tools.
- Strong focus on support, with seven-day availability, 24/7 options for specific managed products and a mix of knowledgeable human staff, AI assistance and good documentation.
- A reasonably green and compliant infrastructure with ISO certifications and hydropower-driven data centers.
- Customer-friendly 30-day money-back guarantee on many hosting and email services, making it easy to test the platform.
Potential downsides: everything is very much geared to the Dutch market (no English support). The site, support and payment methods are primarily tailored to customers in the Netherlands, and there is no obvious emphasis on global data-center choice or exotic payment options. Power users who want ultra-tuned bare-metal servers or multi-continent deployments would probably look elsewhere.
For someone in the Netherlands (or nearby) who wants a dependable provider with good support, a decent managed WordPress and VPS story and an environmentally conscious infrastructure, Hostnet is a very reasonable choice. It is less a rock-bottom "discount" host and more a mid-range partner for long-term use.
